It was the cheapest car in America, following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/2025\/01\/mitsubishi-mirage-doubles-sales-in-2024-as-production-ends-proving-cheap-sells\/\">death of the Mitsubishi Mirage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/2024\/09\/2025-nissan-versa-gets-1k-price-hike-remains-americas-cheapest-new-car-at-17190\/\">2025 Nissan Versa Sees $1k Price Hike, Still America\u2019s Cheapest New Sedan<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite this, there\u2019s little demand for manuals and tariffs certainly didn\u2019t help. In fact, they appear to have been the final nail in a very cheap coffin.<\/p>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article-thumbnails-organic\"><\/div>\n<p>Automotive News broke the story of the manual\u2019s demise and it was confirmed in a statement to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caranddriver.com\/news\/a64917362\/nissan-versa-manual-transmission-dead\/\">Car &amp; Driver<\/a>. In the latter, the automaker said \u201cWe are focusing on the most popular Versa grades that deliver the strongest business performance and are in line with what customers are looking for from this type of sedan.\u201d<\/p>\n<section class=\"type:slideshow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazy \" data-src=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" alt=\"\" src=\"\" data-type=\"inarticle-image\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazy \" data-src=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" alt=\"\" src=\"\" data-type=\"inarticle-image\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazy \" data-src=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" alt=\"\" src=\"\" data-type=\"inarticle-image\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazy \" data-src=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" alt=\"\" src=\"\" data-type=\"inarticle-image\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazy \" data-src=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" alt=\"\" src=\"\" data-type=\"inarticle-image\" \/><\/section>\n<p>The decision isn\u2019t too surprising when you look at the numbers as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autonews.com\/nissan\/an-nissan-ends-production-of-manual-versa-due-to-tariffs-0529\/\">Automotive News<\/a> says less than 5% of Versas sold in the United States last year had a manual transmission. Doing the math, that\u2019s a mere 2,129 units.<\/p>\n<p>This made keeping the manual around hard to justify and one dealer told the publication they only sold four or five units with the gearbox last year. Auto News also noted the car is expected to go out of production next year and previous reports have suggested the Mexican-made Versa could die in April.<\/p>\n<p>If that happens, it would be a blow to consumers with limited budgets.
