Update:<\/strong> While we all sit tight for the Supreme Court\u2019s verdict, a federal appeals court has decided to hit the brakes on the lower court\u2019s ruling that tossed out most of President Trump\u2019s tariffs. CNBC<\/a> reports that this temporary pause gives the administration some breathing room to contest the decision. The court also gave the US a week to respond, with the government getting its turn to reply by June 9, 2025.<\/em><\/p>\n \t\t\t\tvar adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]}; The United States Court of International Trade normally flies under the radar, but it burst into the spotlight yesterday by determining President Trump<\/a> exceeded his authority by applying broad tariffs worldwide \u2013 even on uninhabited islands.<\/p>\n While there\u2019s a lot to unpack, the court determined \u201cThe Constitution assigns Congress the exclusive powers to \u2018lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises,\u2019 and to \u2018regulate Commerce with foreign Nations.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n They also found that Trump\u2019s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 (IEEPA) does not confer \u201cunbounded authority\u201d to \u201cimpose unlimited tariffs on goods from nearly every country in the world.\u201d Given this, it\u2019s not surprising to learn the tariffs challenged in the lawsuit were ordered to be put aside.<\/p>\n More: Trump Imposes Sweeping 25% Tariff On Non-US Made Cars And Parts<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n While that\u2019s the gist of the 50 page ruling<\/a>, the court went on to say \u201cThe Worldwide and Retaliatory Tariff Orders exceed any authority granted to the President by IEEPA to regulate importation by means of tariff.\u201d This is because they \u201cdo not deal with the threats set forth in those orders.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/a> <\/p>\n
