This $7,700 Suzuki Just Got A New Face And Over 66 MPG

  • Suzuki’s Alto gets redesigned bumpers and a new rear spoiler for 2025.
  • Aerodynamic upgrades boost fuel efficiency to an impressive 66.3 mpg.
  • Pricing for the new model starts at ¥1,142,900 or about $7,700 in Japan.

Even in a world obsessed with oversized SUVs and increasingly chaotic city streets, there’s still something charming about a small car that knows exactly what it is. One of Japan’s most endearing city cars, the Suzuki Alto, has received a light update for 2025. The mild facelift arrives nearly four years after the debut of the ninth-generation model and is designed to boost both styling and fuel economy.

The updates don’t reinvent the Alto, but they do give it a bit more polish. The front end has been revised with a new grille that somewhat resembles a mustache, and the lower intakes have been reshaped to better match the bumper’s rounder profile. Most of the bodywork carries over from the previous version, though there’s now a roof spoiler at the rear to freshen things up.

Subtle Styling, Tangible Gains

While the visual tweaks are modest, Suzuki says they enhance the Alto’s aerodynamics, which in turn improves its fuel efficiency. That’s a big deal, considering the car sticks with the same 660cc engines available in both naturally aspirated and mild-hybrid configurations.

The hybrid variant now claims a WLTC fuel economy rating of 28.2 km/l, which comes out to 3.55 liters per 100 kilometers or 66.3 miles per gallon. That’s a small but noticeable improvement over the previous figure of 65 mpg.

Suzuki also says this makes the Alto the most fuel-efficient gasoline hybrid mini car in Japan. It’s worth mentioning that this Japanese-market Alto has nothing to do with the version sold in India, despite sharing the same name.

Measuring just 3,395 mm long (about 133.7 inches), the updated Alto also benefits from an expanded color palette. A new Terracotta Pink Metallic joins the lineup, along with more two-tone combinations like Foggy Blue Pearl Metallic, Chiffon Ivory Metallic, and Nocturne Blue Pearl for the roof.

Inside, the four-seater cabin remains the same, but the 7-inch infotainment is now compatible with Suzuki Connect, allowing remote operation of the A/C through a dedicated smartphone application. Furthermore, the flagship Hybrid X trim features a genuine leather steering wheel and chrome-plated door handles. Still, it’s worth noting that the entry-level Alto rides on steelies and has a blank faceplate instead of a display.

Safety and Pricing

Standard safety equipment now includes Dual Sensor Brake Support II, lane departure prevention, and a traffic light departure notification system

The refreshed Suzuki Alto is already available to order in Japan. Pricing starts at ¥1,142,900 (around $7,700) for the base non-hybrid front-wheel-drive model. The range tops out at ¥1,639,000 (about $11,100) for the fully loaded mild-hybrid version with four-wheel drive.
